Dog’s loyalty tested at rest stop:
Dogs are known to be loyal, but Rambo, a 9-month-old Yorkie, takes that trait to the next level. When Rambo’s owner mistakenly left him at a rest area in Hannibal, Mo., Rambo waited two whole days for his owner to return. The Hannibal Animal Unit located the patient pup after his owner called, frantically searching. Rambo’s loyalty to his owner led to a happy reunion.
How to protect pets in the sun:
You remember to lather your family and yourself with SPF during the summer, but it’s easy to forget protecting the furriest family member from the sun. Ann Hohenhaus, a veterinarian featured on Vetstreet.com, advises pet owners to use “broad spectrum” sunscreen for themselves and their pets to block harmful rays. Most important: Never use sunscreens with zinc oxide and salicylates on pets. Hohenhaus explained zinc oxide is toxic to dogs and salicylates can harm cats. Her recommendation: BullFrog brand, which does not contain either chemical.
More ways from Vetstreet to protect your pet:
- When purchasing your summer sunglasses, find some for your pooch, too. One option: Doggles, protective dog eyewear that block out harmful UV rays.
- Create a shady play spot. Install a sun cover over outdoor pet play areas to move pets out of direct sunglight.
- The easiest sun block: Keep pets indoors from 1o a.m. to 2 p.m. when the sun’s rays are the strongest.
March of the bears:
As summer temperatures increase, the number of bears in unexpected places increases, too. Unusual bear sightings have occurred from Orlando, Fla., to Cape Cod, Mass., at events including a middle school graduation and a wedding reception. Randy Hampton from the Colorado Department of Parks and Wildlife told ABC News that dry air may compel the bears to wander farther for “natural food sources.” Captured bears are relocated back to their natural habitat.
Tail toy time:
It’s difficult to decide what’s cuter in this video – the curious baby or the patient cat. What’s obvious is that watching the baby chase the cat’s tail is the ultimate combination of cute. Be careful viewing this video in the workplace: Uncontrollable exclamations of “Awwww!” may occur.
