A black Labrador retriever did not let the busy Southern California streets stop her from staying by the body of her four-legged friend, a yellow Labrador.
The yellow Labrador retriever was struck and killed by a car and the black Labrador, later identified as Maggie, refused to leave her. She circled around the yellow Lab’s body in distress until a passerby stopped his vehicle and sprang into action, calling animal control.
The man then recorded the video that quickly went viral (see below). Maggie, who was nicknamed Grace for Amazing Grace was taken to a shelter in Baldwin Park, Calif. With no ID tag, license or microchip, the shelter was unable to identify Maggie until hours later when her owners came in with paperwork.
Here’s Maggie as she braves traffic to stand by her friend.
In many states owners are required by law to register their dogs. Had either dog been licensed, their owners could have been found and notified earlier. No one has claimed the yellow Labrador, who also had no ID tag, microchip or license.
For more information about registering your dog contact your local city hall.
