Kayaker finds dog in Gulf of Mexico
Donna Chen was jogging with her dog Barney when she was struck by a drunk driver. A strange unexplained twist of events led Barney into the Gulf of Mexico, where he was rescued by kayaker Rory O’Connor. “He was shaking a lot. Had a bunch of wounds on his leg and was bleeding,” said O’Connor who brought the dog to shore and then a nearby vet. Barney was returned to Chen’s family.
Unwanted pig became guest at dog pound
A 14-week-old pot-belly pig named Bacon Bits was abandoned by his owners after leaving him with a pig sitter. Unable to care for him, the sitter took him to the Paulding County dog pound in northwest Ohio. Bacon Bits was rescued three days after his arrival by Lisa Bartel, co-founder of Heritage Farms Animal Rescue in Liberty Center.
